One-member Central Assessment Team performs Cleanliness Survey in city

Aurangabad, Jan 18:

One-member Central Assessment Team was in the city to perform the Cleanliness Survey 2021, recently. The member preferred to visit alone in different parts of the city without assistance of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials and personnel. After the survey, the team member left the city. It may be noted that Aurangabad had secured 26th position in national ranking and eighth position in Maharashtra during 2020.

The survey was kept very confidential. Initially, one member arrived in the city and proclaimed that the second member was to join him soon. Later on, it was noticed that the single-member completed the survey and left the city. The member obtained the details about the Cleanliness Survey from AMC. He focussed on visiting areas where the citizens continue to defecate in open spaces. He visited the slums and isolated areas and interacted with the people and inquired why they are not utilising personal toilets or the help or support provided by AMC to them etc., said the sources.

The people informed him that hey could not maintain toilets as the AMC provides to them water on gap of five to or eight days. Moreover, many areas are dependent on water through tankers. Hence they use tanker water for drinking and prefer to defecate in open spaces. He also inspected the condition of public toilets in the city.

The team member also inspected areas from where the garbage contractor does not lift the garbage. The team member cross-verified the claims made by AMC on paper as the clean and the beautiful city.

The member also visited sewage treatment plant (STPs) at Kanchanwadi, Jhalta and Salim Ali Lake and obtained details about the functioning of STPs. He also expressed satisfaction over the functioning of STPs, claimed the sources.
