Aurangabad, April 10:

One cub, out of the two cubs delivered by yellow tigress Bhakti on March 3, died in the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) zoo, today at 8 am.

It may be noted Bhakti has delivered the cubs for the first time. The mother, however, was not milking the cubs. As a result, the zoo officials were offering goat milk to them, since their birth. It so happened that Bhakti was moving in the enclosure on April 6 night and co-incidentally the cub got pressed under her foot. The cub was experiencing pains since then and was consuming less quantity of milk. Later on, the cub stopped drinking the milk. Sensing seriousness, the zoo officials separated the cubs from their mother. The zoo's veterinarian Dr Neeti Singh was conducting the treatment of the cub. However, the little stopped responding to the treatment and died on Saturday at 8 am, stated the press release.

The livestock development officer (of Government Polyclinic) Dr Ashwini Rajendra performed the post-mortem of the baby animal. The last rites were performed in presence of the range forest officer S B Tambe and forest circle officer A D Tangade. The primary autopsy report underlined that the cub has died of internal bleeding in the body. Presently, the second cub of Bhakti is safe and healthy.
