Online crook cheats retd ASI at Rs 1.9 lakh

Aurangabad, June 8:

A cybercrook posed as an officer of a public sector bank and cheated a retired assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at Rs 1.9 lakh on the pretext of linking his mobile number with a bank account.

According to details, the complainant Amarsingh Kishansingh Choudhary retired from the police force as ASI two years ago. He was staying at Venus-Lotus Apartment in Mustafabad of Beed bypass with family.

He received a missed call on May 4 from an unknown mobile number. The caller pretending as an officer of the State Bank of India informed Amarsingh that he wants to link the latter’s mobile to his bank account. The caller also gave details of the complainant’s bank account and other details.

Later, the caller withdrew Rs 1.9 lakh of pension from his bank account. When Amarsingh enquired with the bank, he was informed that this an act of online cheating. Amarsingh lodged a complaint with Satara Police Station. Police inspector Surendra Malaley is on the case.
