Aurangabad, March 31:

A total of 2,240 ZP schools will get LPG gas connections for cooking meal for students under the mid-day meal (MDM) scheme in the district.

The students of 2040 ZP schools and 300 private schools get benefit from the MDM scheme.

Of them, 100 schools, including 57 from Sillod tehsil and remaining from other tehsils, cook a meal on a gas stove, which was made available with the School Committee's help. The meal is cooked on a wooden stove which is a costly affair and time consuming compared to gas. The LPG connection will help in making an available meal on time for the students. The ZP administration was to make available gas connection by March-end, but it did not happen because of COVID.

The school committee office-bearers and teachers said that the gas connection would be made available soon.

The tehsil-wise ZP schools which do not gas connection as follows;

Aurangabad (251), Paithan (250), Ganhapur (236), Vaijapur (319), Kannad (309), Sillod (277), Khuldabad (105), Phulambri (199), Soyegaon (94).

ZP accounts officer Bhausaheb Deshpande said that the efforts and time required to cook meal will be reduced once the LGP connection is given to the schools.

“There are 100 schools which have a gas connection. Other schools will too become ‘chulha’ free. The fund will be deposited into the schools account soon as ZP is initiating the process,” he added.
