Potholes, bumpy roads in the old city make driving a risky task

Aurangabad, July 10:

There are hundreds of potholes on the main roads of the old city. For the last two years, the municipal administration has not done patchwork on these roads. The bumpy roads have become a headache for the daily commuters. The condition of the main roads has also worsened.

In the past few years, the municipal corporation has been building roads from the Rs 100 crore funds approved by the state government. At present, work of Rs 152 crore roads are underway. Meanwhile, the corporation turned a blind eye towards the maintenance of the roads in the old city. Every year, the municipal authorities used to do patchwork on the occasion of Ganeshotsav. But this has also been delayed for the last two years. As a result, the number of potholes has increased. The municipal administration had announced plans to fill the potholes with the polymer method. However, not a single pothole was filled. It is noteworthy that the corporation administration had made a separate financial provision of Rs 26 lakhs for filling the potholes. But not even a single rupee was spent.

Cement patchwork on asphalt roads

Two years ago, the civic officials had asked the contractors doing work from the Rs 100 crore fund to fill the potholes by using cement material on the asphalt roads. But the experiment failed miserably. The roads on which the experiment was done are in a pathetic condition.

Planning of patchwork

The corporation is currently planning to do patch work before Ganeshotsav. Ward engineers have already been instructed to prepare a budget for the worst roads. Efforts will be made to get the work done once the budget is prepared, said Sakharam Panjhade, city engineer.

Roads in worst condition

There are at least 500 potholes on the road from Chelipura police station to Champa chowk. The road from Champa chowk to Damdi Mahal, Champa Chowk to Jinsi is also in a very bad shape. The corporation has not done any work on these roads for the last several years. The road from Shahganj Gandhi statue to the head post office is in bad shape. This is a very important and marketable road in the old city. The road at Dhawani Mohalla, Sarafa, BMC Bank has deteriorated. The road from Aurangpura to Nehru Bhavan is also very bad. Two-wheeler and four-wheeler owners have to suffer a lot. The roads in the Begumpura area are also in the worst shape.
