Red Zones: AMC undertakes study in 19 wards reporting large number of Covid-19 patients

Aurangabad, March 9:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has listed 19 wards of the city as Red Zones, from where the reporting of Covid-19 patients was high in the past few weeks. The AMC will soon start contact tracing in these wards falling under Red Zones.

The reporting of Coronavirus infected patients increased from February 2021. The situation got worsen when there was reporting of 300-350 patients daily for the past week. To curb the spreading, the AMC increased the tracing of suspects coming in contact with infected patients. As a result, the Covid Care Centres and private hospitals are witnessing a severe rush of patients.

The worsening situation prompted the AMC health officials to undertake a study in the wards (collected data and procure health-related information) from where a large number of patients are being detected. As per the study, 19 wards had been transformed as Red Zones, said the municipal officer of health (MoH), Dr Neeta Padalkar.

Red Zones in city

Satara-Deolai, Padegaon-Mitmita, Khadkeshwar, Nageshwarwadi, Shivneri Colony (N-9), Pawannagar, Ayodhyanagar, Cidco N-1 sector, N-5 sector, Hussain Colony, Vishrantinagar, Kamgar Chowk, Ulkanagari, Surananagar, Gadiya Vihar, Shivajinagar, Guruduttnagar, Kachanwadi and Devanagari wards.

Dr Padalkar said, " We will now be focussing on contact tracing, conducting antigen tests and send them in the institutional quarantine. The persons who would be permitted for isolation in their homes should not step out of their residential premises. We will keep a vigil on them or pay surprise visits to check their availability."

It may be noted that the district administration had declared partial lockdown in the district from March 11 to April 4, ordered the closure of marriage function halls, coaching classes, vegetable markets etc. to overcome the situation.
