Relatives of COVID patients in private hospitals face shortage of Remdesivir injections

Aurangabad, April 17:

The relatives of Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment in private hospitals in and around the city are forced to run helter-skelter to fetch the Remdesivir injections.

It so happened that one relative, whose patient was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Paithan, arrived in the city to get the injection on Friday. He then contacted the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) inspector. Today evening, one relative of a patient undergoing treatment in the city's private hospital was also spotted hunting for the injection. When contacted the FDA officials told him to go to District Civil Hospital. Adding to the woes, one doctor, who is looking after the vaccination responsibility in AMC's health centre, was also compelled to search for the injection for his friend on Friday night.

It is claimed that there is ample stock of injections with the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and District Civil Hospital (DCH), but going by the situation it seems it is not easy to fetch injection for patients undergoing treatment in private hospitals. The FDA joint commissioner Sanjay Kale confirmed that there is adequate stock of Remdesivir injections available with them.

It is learnt that the stock of injections with GMCH, DCH and AMC would finish after few days. If the fresh stock is not supplied to them then the relatives of patients undergoing treatment in respective government hospitals would also have to run helter-skelter for the injections, it is feared.
