Revenue admin. to take possession of land for sports university

Aurangabad, Jan 27:

The district administration has geared up to acquire 30 acres of land, out of 170 acres, for the construction of a sports university, at Karodi. The university of international aims at promoting sports and developing ace sportspersons from Marathwada and Vidarbha regions.

The land bearing Gut No. 24 comprises an area of 170 acres. Of which, 140 acres is in possession of the administration, but 30 acres of land was allotted to different societies for various purpose. Hence the district administration geared up to acquire this 30 acres of land from the societies.

As reported earlier, the proposal to develop a sports university by spending Rs 606 crore was made in 2017. The initial proposal was to start the university in 60-70 acres of land. The announcement was university made again after a change in political power in Maharashtra. The land was reserved for the university by rejecting 169 other proposals. Meanwhile, the district administration got active after the initiative was started to shift the university to Pune.

The development of university will be close to Samruddhi Super Expressway and National Highway.

The district collector Sunil Chavan said, " We will need land for the development of sports university. As a result, the revenue administration had started the process to take back the possession of land allotted to various societies. The administration would take possession after the measurement of the land."
