Rural police reduce accident deaths by 17 pc

Aurangabad, Jan 19:

The Rural Police succeeded in reducing 17 per cent casualties in road accidents in the district during the last one year. Around 550 to 600 accidents reported in the district every year. The number of deaths is high among them.

Considering this, Superintendent of police Mokshada Patil implemented different initiatives to bring the number of accidents down.

Police inspector of Traffic Branch Kailas Prajapati said that black spots where accidents take place frequently were fixed on the different roads of the district.

He said that a study was carried out to find out causes and later,

measures were taken with the health of the public works department.

A campaign to install reflectors on vehicles was implemented 198 times in the district.

A safe driver mobile application was made available so that driver can have information 500 meters away from black spot. He said that eye and health check camps were conducted for truck drivers and owners, which helped reduce accidents.

A total of 298 serious accidents occurred in 2019 while 324 persons were killed in the district. During 2020, 246 fatal accidents were reported and 262 people died.

The traffic branch took action against 93,847 vehicle owners for flouting norms and collected Rs 2.16 crore fine.
