Savitribai Phule remembered at Winchester

Aurangabad, March 13:

Winchester International English School remembered Savitribai Phule, the pioneering Indian lady educationist and social reformer from Maharashtra on her death anniversary recently. Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Savitribai Phule. Highlighting Savitribai’s life and achievements, Syeda Areeba of Grade 10 said, “Savitribai is regarded as the first Indian lady teacher from Maharashtra. She along with her husband Mahatma Jyotirao Phule played an important role in improving women’s rights in India during British Rule. Along with her husband she founded the first girls’ school in Pune.” School director Dr Afsar Khan said, “Savitribai fought against discrimination based on caste creed and religion.” Everyone appreciated learning various facts about the well-known historic figure.
