Aurangabad, May 31:

In a move to enhance the security system and ensure the safety of passengers, the South Central Railway (SCR) has launched an Integrated Video Surveillance System (VSS) at 17 railway stations of three states including five railway stations of Maharashtra, today. The five stations of Maharashtra are Aurangabad, Jalna, Dharmabad, Nagarsol, and Parli Vaijanath.

The General Manager (SCR) Gajanan Mallya, has inaugurated the VSS control room to mark the launching of the services, on Monday, at SCR headquarter. The facility will help monitor the security surveillance footage of all 17 stations (of the first phase) at three levels - station, divisional, and zonal security control.

The other 12 stations of the two states are Adilabad, Begumpet, Lingampalli, Manchiryal, and Warangal (of Telangana); Guntur, Kadapa, Kurnool Town, Nellore, Ongole, Rajahmundry, and Tuni (of Andhra Pradesh).

It may be noted that the Railway Board has entrusted RailTel (a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways) to provide IP-based VSS with video analytics and a facial recognition system at all railway stations, premium, and EMU coaches.

Accordingly, the PSU will be providing VSS at A1, A, B, C, D, and E category stations, coaches of premium trains and suburban EMU coaches stated the press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO, SCR) Ch. Rakesh.

Elaborating about the VSS project, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD, RailTel), Puneet Chawla said, " The VSS facility will also be introduced at two Bapatla and Purna stations by June. A total of 76 stations of SCR will be covered with this high-tech security system by the end of 2021-22."

“RailTel has connected 520 CCTV cameras of these stations through optical fiber cable to send the video feeds to the centralized CCTV control room where it is being monitored round the clock. The 4K resolution Ultra HD cameras have also been deployed to facilitate facial recognition. The new VSS will enhance the security and safety of the passengers," said the General Manager (SCR).

For better coverage and clear image, four different types of Full HD Cameras – Dome type, bullet types, Pan Tilt Zoom type and Ultra HD-4k cameras are being provided. The recording of the video feeds from CCTV cameras will be stored for 30 days for playback, post-event analysis, and for investigation purposes. The important videos would also be stored for a longer duration based on requests from security agencies, stated the release.
