Aurangabad, June 17:

The High Court has taken serious note of the alleged corruption of around Rs 20 crore by building wells in the name of the deceased in the Beed Panchayat Samiti. Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Ravindra Ghuge directed the collector to submit a detailed report within 8 weeks on Wednesday.

Rajkumar Deshmukh and others have filed a petition in this regard. The petition points out that money was spent for construction of wells when there were no applications. It has also been observed that the list of beneficiaries included deceased persons. Despite the ban on cash transactions under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, corruption was done in this case by showing that the beneficiaries were paid in cash. The petition seeks investigation and probe into the suspicious transactions and embezzlement of Rs 20 crore. The court ordered the details of money allotted by the central government to Maharashtra to implement MGNREGA from 2011 to 2019. How much was spent for this work and other matters. Whether a social order has been made in the Gram Sabha under Section 17 (2) of the MGNREGA Act 2005, if any, details of the above period should be submitted. Did the project coordinator Beed receive any complaints under the scheme. If so, why no action was taken as per Section 27 (2). The court has directed the collector to investigate the above issue and submit a detailed affidavit within a week. Adv D G K Thigale Naik worked on behalf of the petitioners, D R Kale on behalf of the state government and A G Talhar of the Central government.
