Aurangabad, April 15:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) zoo on Siddharth Garden campus witnessed the death of the second cub of the yellow tigress Bhakti on Wednesday at 10.30 pm. Four days ago, the first cub of the same tigress died on the campus. It is learnt that the health of the second cub was deteriorating for the past two days due to the demise of the first cub. The last rites were performed today morning.

It may be noted that the Bhakti and the white tiger Veer were the parents of the two cubs, which were born on April 3. Both the cubs were white. It was the first delivery of the yellow tigress. She was not milking her cubs, therefore, the two cubs were surviving on the goat milk. On April 6, one cub got crushed under the legs of Bhakti while she was moving in the enclosure during the night hours. The zoo officials separated both the cubs from the mother. However, the first cub died on April 10 and the second cub got restless since then and breathe last on April 14.

The zoo officials were in touch with the veterinarians of Khadkeshwar's Animal Polyclinic and tried their best to save the cubs, but was in vain. The animal husbandry officer Dr Ashwini Rajendra performed the post mortem, while the panchanama was held in presence of the forest officials S B Tambe and A D Tangade. Later on, the last rites were performed on the cub today morning.
