Vaccination likely to hamper if supply is inadequate

Aurangabad, March 27:

In the fourth phase of Corona vaccination, all the persons above 45 years of age will be given vaccines from April 1. The health machinery is all prepared for it now. But if is feared that the vaccination drive may hamper if the supply of the vaccines is inadequate.

It may be noted that the persons above 60 years of age and above 45 years with co-morbidities are being vaccinated in the third phase of vaccination. People were enthusiastic for the vaccines and long queues were seen at the vaccination centres. From April 1 onwards, all the persons above 45 years can avail vaccinations. Presently, there are 11,000 vaccine doses available in the district, which can last only for nine days. As the severity of Corona is on the rise, the residents are eager to take vaccines. It will be very difficult for the health machinery to face the people if the vaccines are not received in large quantity. There are around 9 lakh people above 45 years and above in the district. Hence, the target for the fourth phase will be of 9 lakh doses.

District health officer, Dr Sudhakar Shelke, said, around 11,000 doses are available in the district presently. The vaccination of the health employees, frontlines workers is over. The vaccines are provided by the union government and it is received on weekly basis, he said.
