Ventilators sent by Centre unable to use in GMCH's ICU

Aurangabad, April 14:

The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) is in dire need of ventilators in the ICU ward as the 100 ventilators supplied by the union Government, two days ago, are less helpful for critical Covid-19 patients. These ventilators are useful for patients prior to shifting them from oxygen to ventilator.

It has come to notice that some spares of these ventilators are also missing. After discussion, it was decided to buy them, from the local market. Presently, there are 110 ventilators for Covid-19 patients in GMCH. There is a dire need for more ventilators in ICU as there is a huge rush of infected patients in GMCH. The administration is pursuing the demand. The GMCH administration claimed that this stock of 50 ventilators would not be of great use in ICU. Instead, it will be utilising them in casualty and other wards.

GMCH Dean Dr Kanan Yelikar said, " The patients, who are critical, even after supplying them oxygen are put on ventilators. Hence the ventilators supplied by the Central Government will be utilised to stabilise the health condition of patients prior to shifting them to ICU-ventilator. These ventilators could play an important role before the patient gets critical. We will keep 50 ventilators and the remaining 50 will be given to the district collectorate."
