Vigilant rickshaw driver, GMCH nurses help find abducted baby in two hours

Aurangabad, Feb 23:

In a shocking incident, a woman abducted a newborn baby from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday morning. However, due to the vigilance of the nurses, autorickshaw driver and relatives, the baby was found within two hours.

According to information, Sonali Digambar Harale (Limbe Jalgaon, Gangapur) gave birth in the GMCH on Monday morning. She was admitted to ward 30 after delivery. She was accompanied by her mother Ashabai Hiwale. She was due to be discharged on Tuesday. Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, they left the baby on the bed and went to change their clothes. Seizing this opportunity, a woman took away the baby and ran away from the hospital. Seeing the baby missing from the bed, the mother-daughter duo raised an alarm. As soon as the matter was noticed, some nurses and staff in the ward started searching for the missing infant.

Alert rickshaw driver comes to the rescue

The maternity ward staff immediately started asking the rickshaw drivers in the GMCH premises about the woman. They informed that a woman had left with a baby in the rickshaw of Usman Khan Mehmood Khan. They immediately called Usman Khan and informed him about the incident. Meanwhile, Usman was returning to the GMCH after leaving the woman near an alley near a petrol pump in the old Mondha-Jaffergate area. Usman already had a doubt about the woman. So he kept an eye on the woman till she reached an alley.

Woman claims it was her 5-day old child

Immediately, the nurses and the staff reached the spot. It was not known exactly which house the woman went to. So they knocked on the door of every house and searched for the baby. The baby was finally found in a house. The woman then claimed that the 5-day-old baby was hers. But the nurses noticed that the baby was one day old. So they immediately handed over the woman to the police.

Security arrangements hollow

The woman had been wandering around the ward for two days and was trying to Sonali as if she knew her. There is no security guard near ward 30 between 7 am to 8 am. Taking this opportunity, the woman abducted the baby.
