Waluj industrial area in complete lockdown

Aurangabad, March 13:

The lockdown held on Saturday got spontaneous response in Waluj. About 30 per cent of the contractual workers preferred to stay at home even though the industries were in operation. Due to the lockdown, the markets in the area were deserted and there was a sparse crowd of citizens and vehicles on the roads.

Due to the rapid increase in the number of corona patients in urban and rural areas, the administration declared a partial lockdown in the district from March 11 to April 4 and a complete lockdown on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was the first day of the two day lockdown. Citizens and businesses did not leave their homes as the police administration and the gram panchayat have been raising awareness about the lockdown for the past two days. However some people were seen walking on the streets. As internal roads were deserted, the youth enjoyed playing cricket in the streets. Vegetable and fruit vendors were seen waiting for customers at Pandharpur, Bajajnagar vegetable market.

Less workers turn up

As big and small companies were operating, buses and vehicles carrying workers were seen on the road. The permanent workers turned up for work. However, about 30 per cent of the contractual workers from urban and rural areas prefer to stay at home without coming to work, said industrialists Rahul Mogle, Abdul Sheikh, Arjun Gaikwad and others.

Sporadic crowds on the streets

Due to the lockdown, malls, shopping centers and big hotels in Waluj were closed. Hospitals, medical stores and grocery stores in the area were open as usual. MIDC Waluj police station PI Madhukar Sawant, Sandeep Gurme, traffic branch PI Janardan Salunke patrolled various areas.
