War Room flooded with calls to know availability of vaccine

Aurangabad, July 12:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) started War Room and Helpline Number to provide relief to persons or patients during medical emergencies. It was started in March 2020. The duo service started by the AMC is now being applauded by the citizens for rendering quality service through proper guidance, which helped in saving lives of the people, in the past one and a half years.

The Helpline is a part of War Room and complaints were petty in nature. Due to the irregular supply of vaccine stock, the callers are curious to know the availability of vaccines, if yes then the names of the vaccination centres etc. There were many complaints where the callers informed that they had not received their reports after Covid tests or inconvenience in registration for the vaccine on Cowin App.

It may be noted that the civic administration had deployed all its regular and contractual staff on duty in War Room. It functions round the clock. The staff on duty keeps a vigil on the health situation of citizens, interacts with people in need of medical help, etc. It also handles issues like availability of beds in hospitals, oxygen cylinders, vaccination supply etc.

The War Room also compiles information relating to daily testing at various points, identification of mucormycosis patients, patients who succumbed to the Covid-19 infection, etc. It maintains exact data provided to the government.

The AMC has received 4,410 calls during the second wave and 3,500 calls were received after the first wave. They were mostly from the citizens inquiring about the distribution of food grains. The staff sometimes also experienced the anger of the callers when there is no vaccine at the centre when the staff directs them to visit. The team of teachers deployed to check the health status of Covid-19 patients after their recovery, also report to the War Room.

The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr. Neeta Padalkar said, " The AMC started War Room, Helpline etc. with a view to providing quality service to the citizens. The officers and personnel of AMC and other departments worked hard. It is the result of their devotion that we could attend the calls on priority, help saving loss of lives, guided in getting proper medical service in time, etc during the last one and a half years."

War Room receives many calls daily. Earlier, many of the callers told the pulse rates of their relatives or patients are dropping. Some even told that the pulse rate had reached 35. In this critical situation, the patients were directed to GMCH (the tertiary hospital) and saved their lives. The AMC's Covid Warriors had many stories to narrate during the lockdown. One caller contacted the Helpline and emotionally broke down while speaking on the second day saying that his mother is now out of danger due to guidance.

The citizens would also contact Helpline in large numbers. Their queries are mostly related to the availability of vaccines and Covid test reports. After getting their work done, the callers would make calls to thank the staff on duty. Presently, the complaints have been reduced as the second wave has been ended.
