Youths posting objectionable post on social media served notices

Aurangabad, April 28:

The city police have serviced notices to four youths for posting objectionable posts on their friends group frequently which could hurt the religious sentiments and asked them to be present before the police whenever called.

Meanwhile, the seized mobile phones of the accused and the complainant girl will be sent to the forensic laboratory for examination soon, the sources said.

The suspects Arth Munish Devpuri, Ritesh Jadhav, Ankit Avinash Chakdi and Aditya Raju Pawar are the classmates of the complainant girl. They have a whatsapp group of friends. One of the suspect is a student of IIT, Powai, two from Saint Xeviers College, Mumbai and one is studying in America. The complainant girl is a resident of Aurangabad but study in Mumbai. She came to the city a few days back due to the Corona pandemic. Last November, a boy posted objectionable post which could hurt the religious sentiment on the group. The girl had objected to it, but the suspects continued to post such posts frequently. The girl then told about it to her mother and a complainant was lodged at the police commissionerate. Then under the guidance of the senior officer, the evidences from the phones of the suspects were gained and a case was registered at the Kranti Chowk police station. PI, Amol Devkar started the investigation and seized the mobile phones of the suspects and the complainant girl. Notices have been served to the suspects.

As per the guidelines regarding the arrest, the accused in the cases in which punishment is less than seven years cannot be detained. As the case registered has the provision of three years punishment, the suspects will not be arrested but as per the Supreme Court guidelines, they have to be present before the court whenever called.
