India assumed control on Day 1 of the 4th test in Ahemdabad despite losing Shubman Gill for a duck. India were 24/1 at stumps with Rohit Sharma (8) and Cheteshwar Pujara (15) unbeaten at the crease. Gill lost his wicket to England's star pacer James Anderson in the third ball of the innings.

For India, spinners Axar Patel (4/68) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3/47) shared seven wickets between them, while pacer Mohammed Siraj (2/45) also accounted for two batsmen. For England, all-rounder Ben Stokes top scored with 55 before being trapped in front by Washington Sundar. India are leading the series 2-1 and need just a draw or win to qualify for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand to be held in June.
