The runner up of last year Delhi Capitals continued their prolific form in the IPL as Rishabh Pant's side registered their first win of 2021. Chasing a target of 189, the Capitals got off to a bright start with Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw registering 50s at the top of the order. The openers added a valuable 138 runs for the opening wicket. Suresh Raina (54 off 36 balls) and Sam Curran (34 off 15) helped Chennai Super Kings post a competitive 188/7 in their 20 overs. Earlier, Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to field first against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede stadium.

Avesh Khan cleaned up MS Dhoni for a duck. Suresh Raina was the star of the show hammering 54 runs before getting run out. Avesh Khan produced the goods with the ball for Delhi Capitals, registering figures of 2/23 in his 4 overs. Rishabh Pant's DC won toss against MS Dhoni's CSK in the 2nd game of the 2021 edition of Indian Premier League.  Steve Smith was not named in Delhi squad, while allrounders Tom Curran and Chris Woakes were handed their debuts. Chennai also handed a debut to Moeen Ali, who was named in the playing XI.  The Super Kings had a season to forget a few months back in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Saddled with unfamiliar conditions, age finally seemed to have taken its toll on the franchise.
