Shabir Hussein Shekhadam Khandwawala, who has served as the Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) before, is the new BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit chief. The 70-year-old, a 1973 batch IPS officer, takes over from Ajit Singh whose tenure ended on March 31. After retiring as Gujarat DGP in late 2010, Khandwawala worked with the Essar Group as an advisor and was also part of the central government's Lokpal Search Committee.
"It is a matter of a great honour that I am part of the BCCI which is the best run cricketing body in the world. Besides my expertise on security matters, what should help me in this role is my love for the game," Khandwawala told PTI. "I also want to congratulate my predecessor for doing a fine a job and keeping Indian cricket's image clean."Khandwawala will travel to Chennai on April 7 ahead of the start of the 2021 Indian Premier League. He also attended the India-England final ODI in Pune on March 28 before joining in formally. Ajit, a former DGP of Rajasthan, took up the role in April 2018 and will continue for a month to help Khandwawala with the new role. Ajit, a 1982-Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, had retired in 2017 before taking up the role with BCCI.
