Former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs has been named the head coach of Sylhet Thunders for the upcoming edition of Bangladesh Premier League. Gibbs, who played 90 Tests and 224 ODIs was one of the best fielders during his playing days. The news about his appointment was confirmed by Team Director Tanjil Chowdhury.
Gibbs has previous experince of coaching in T20 leagues including Afghanistan Premier League and Euro T20 League. Meanwhile, the management is planning to appoint Sarowar Imran their mentor who was earlier their head coach during the players draft on Nov 17. Gibbs joins a host of overseas coaches at the tournament, with Paul Nixon taking charge of Chattogram Challengers, while Ottis Gibson, Grant Flower and Owais Shah are the head coaches of Comilla Warriors, Rangpur Rangers and Rajshahi Royas respectively. Khulna Tigers too have a foreign coach in James Foster.
