Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra accidentally applied saliva on the ball during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Tuesday here at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Mishra applied saliva on the ball before bowling his first ball in the match. He came on to bowl the sixth over of the innings and before his first ball, the leg-spinner ended up applying saliva on the ball.

After the incident, on-field umpire Virender Sharma gave the first warning to Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant.

Last year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had banned the use of saliva on the ball in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Players are given a first warning if they defy the saliva rules even inadvertently and then if they do it again, a 5-run penalty is imposed on the team which the erring player belongs to.

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals on Tuesday won the toss and opted to field against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Delhi Capitals made one change to their lineup as they brought in Ishant Sharma in place of Ravichandran Ashwin. On the other hand, RCB made two changes as the side brought in Rajat Patidar and Del Sams in place of Navdeep Saini and Dan Christian.

Delhi Capitals and RCB are currently at the second and third position in the points table with 8 points each from five matches.
