Kings XI Punjab have been the underachievers of IPL, with the team yet to win a silverware in the cash rich league. It looks, like the team is now opting for a fresh change ahead of the new season of IPL. If the speculations are to be believed the Punjab-based team will be changing their name and logo before the upcoming auction which will be held on February 18th. The franchise which is owned by the Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, and co-owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul, are reportedly welcoming the new season of the IPL by revealing a new name on the eve of the IPL auction, February 17.

Last season, Punjab Kings XI Punjab got off to the worst possible start, but managed to bounce back quite remarkably by registering a five-match winning streak in the league stage. Talking about the IPL mini-auction, Kings XI Punjab have enhanced their balance purse to INR 53.2 crore after releasing the likes of Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell on the retention day for IPL season 2021. While Cottrell was bought for 8.5 crore, KXIP signed Maxwell for 10.75 crore during the previous mega auction of the IPL. Punjab have also released K Gowtham, Mujeeb ur Rahman, Jimmy Neesham, Hardus Viljoen, and Karun Nair ahead of the new season. Kings XI Punjab, however, will not be the first team to change their name or do the rebranding of their logo as sides like Deccan Chargers, changed their logo and jersey after the first season, Kolkata Knight Riders have also changed their logo, Royal Challengers Bangalore have changed their logo twice, while the Delhi team became the Capitals from Daredevils and Rising Pune Supergiants removed an 's' from their name and played as Supergiant in the 2017 season, after a disappointing campaign in 2016.
