Former England batsman Marcus Trescothick has signed a two- year coaching deal with Somerset and will be part of the backroom staff as the club's assistant coach. The 43-year old who represented English team at the highest level was quite excited about his new role. "I'm absolutely over the moon to have the opportunity to join the coaching setup here at the Club and I can't wait to get my teeth in to it," Trescothick said after signing the dotted line. 

Continuing further Trescothick said, "I spent some time in and around the Second XI last season, so I've already spent some quality time with the younger players who have just come into the squad. To think that you might be able to help progress someone's career is a great feeling and it's something that I'm really looking forward to.'' 

The new role at Somerset will see Trescothick's primary focus be on developing the county's younger players as they progress through the 2nd XI system.Trescothick who stood in as Test and ODI captain on several occasions made his first-class debut for Somerset in 1993.  An aggressive opener during his playing days,  Trescothick has represented the national team in 76 tests and 123 ODIs.
