Chennai Super Kings were knocked out of IPL 2020 playoffs after the three time champions slumped to a 10 wicket defeat against Mumbai Indians. After being put into bat, Chennai had a horrendous start to the innings losing five wickets in the power-play. Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers for the Mumbai Indians as the Kiwi pacer ripped through CSK middle order.  Boult who has been instrumental in Mumbai Indians success this season recorded his best IPL figures in the match.  In Rohit's absence, Ishan Kishan opened the innings and the young wicket-keeper batsman commenced the Mumbai innings with a flurry of boundaries in Quinton De Kock''s company.

Chennai were out of the game in the first six overs itself in the second innings as the Mumbai openers raced to half century stand in quick time. The loss ended all hopes of Super Kings play off qualification as MS Dhoni's team disappointed in all three aspects of the game. Earlier, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to field first against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the 41st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in Sharjah. Regular skipper has been ruled out of the game due to hamstring injury. It was Kieron Pollard who took up the captaincy responsibilities. CSK bought in Imran Tahir in place of Shane Watson as the overseas replacement.
