Rohit Sharma's luck with the toss continued as, the Mumbai skipper won the toss and opted to bat first against a struggling Sunrisers. This is the same wicket as that of the first match of this season’s tournament. The wickets in Chennai can be described in two phases – it’s easier to score in the first 10 overs of both innings. Spin is always a significant factor at this venue, the ball turns a lot more in the second innings of the game.

After two losses so far, both while chasing, Hyderabad would prefer to go better the third time. The team will hope players like Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar can be more aggressive and not let the whole batting unit depend on David Warner and Jonny Bairstow. A win against a side like Mumbai could be the booster shot Sunrisers desperately seek. In terms of the squad, Adam Milne received his maiden cap from Rohit Sharma as the kiwi replaces Marco Jansen. The Sunrisers ringed in a couple of changes with Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Khaleel Ahmed replacing Jason Holder and T Natarajan, meanwhile, Virat Singh and Abhishek Sharma replaced Saha and Shahbaz Nadeem.
