Dilip Kumar, fondly called Dilip Saab, breathed his last today at the age of 98 in Mumbai, after prolonged illness. The veteran star was recently discharged from hospital and was again admitted due to ill healt. He was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion a build-up of excess fluid between the layers of the pleura outside the lungs and underwent a successful pleural aspiration procedure. He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am, Dr Jalil Parkar, who had been treating the actor, told PTI.

Many film personalities have extended their condolences, taking to social media platforms. Now cricketer Shahid Afridi has offered his condolences on the legendary actor's demise. The former Pakistan skipper wrote, Indeed to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return. A huge loss for Yousuf Khan sahib's fans from KPK to Mumbai and across the globe. He lives on in our hearts. Deepest condolences to Saira Banu sahiba. #DilipKumar. Dilip Kumar enjoyed a massive fan following in Pakistan. Dilip Kumar also possessed the distinction of being the only Indian recipient of Pakistan’s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz. Dilip, Kumar born as Yousuf Khan, did his first film Jwar Bhata in 1944 and his last Qila in 1998, 54 years later. Some of his best known films include Aan, Daag, Devdas, Madhumati, Azaad, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Kranti, Karma, Ram Aur Shyam, among others.
