Dilip Kumar, fondly called Dilip Saab, breathed his last today at the age of 98 in Mumbai, after prolonged illness. The veteran star was recently discharged from hospital and was again admitted due to ill healt. He was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion a build-up of excess fluid between the layers of the pleura outside the lungs and underwent a successful pleural aspiration procedure. He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am, Dr Jalil Parkar, who had been treating the actor, told PTI.

Dilip Kumar also possessed the distinction of being the only Indian recipient of Pakistan’s highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz. Dilip, Kumar born as Yousuf Khan, did his first film Jwar Bhata in 1944 and his last Qila in 1998, 54 years later. Some of his best known films include Aan, Daag, Devdas, Madhumati, Azaad, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Kranti, Karma, Ram Aur Shyam, among others.
