Two time champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, ended their first innings total on 172 after the end of 20 overs. Nitish Rana (87) posted his highest ever IPL score at the top of the order. He got to his 50 off 44 balls, but then unleashed on CSK’s spinners, who had till then bogged down the KKR top order. Dinesh Karthik helped provide a strong finish.
KKR with 12 points from 12 games would like to win the next two encounters to ensure a smooth passage while CSK, currently at the bottom of the eight-team table, are only playing for pride.
