Rishabh Pant is one of the two Indian players in England, who have tested positive for the novel COVID-19 infection, reported news agency PTI. The report further adds that the 23-year-old wicket-keeper batsman has tested for the Delta Variant which has led to rising number of cases in UK. The report said he had turned a positive result more than a week back and is asymptomatic. Pant was among the players who had visited the Wembley stadium to watch an England vs Germany Euro match. On Wednesday, Britain recorded the highest number of daily infections since 15 January at 42,302.

Catching the match live from the Wembley stadium Pant had posted a few photographs along with a caption saying: “Good experience watching. "The stylish wicketkeeper-batsman was then questioned and warned by the fans about the absence of the face mask, especially in the jam-packed stadium. Pant is currently in isolation in his acquaintance’s place and will not join the rest of the side in Durham immediately. Speculations are also rife that BCCI secretary Jay Shah in his letter told the players to “avoid" crowded places as Covishield, the vaccine which has been given to the team, only provides protection, not full immunity against the virus. In fact, Shah’s letter had specifically stated that players should avoid going to Wimbledon and Euro Championships, which recently concluded there. The first Test against England is scheduled for August 4 in Trent Bridge. India are to play a three-day warm-up match against a select county championship XI from July 20 in Durham.
