Former India pacer RP Singh's father died on Wednesday, after a prolonged battle with COVID-19. "It is with deepest grief and sadness we inform the passing away of my father, Mr Shiv Prasad Singh. He left for his heavenly abode on 12th May after suffering from Covid. We request you to keep my beloved father in your thoughts and prayers. RIP Papa," RP Singh wrote on social media. Earlier, RP had left, the Indian Premier League 2021 commentator’s bio-secure bubble after his father was tested positive with COVID-19.

The former fast bowler has been contracted with Star Sports for appearing in the Hindi broadcast and coverage of the IPL 2021. On Monday, Piyush Chawla, who was also part of the 2007 T20 World Cup winning squad, lost his father due to the deadly coronavirus. RP Singh, who won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup with India in 2007, represented India in 14 Tests, 58 one-day internationals and 10 Twenty20 Internationals. He retired in 2018 and ventured into commentary commitments. RP Singh was also part of the Cricket Advisory Committee that chose the selection committee members for the senior national team.
