It was KKR's third straight defeat as the two-time champions are struggling to find consistency in IPL 2021. KKR were reduced to 31 for 5 after their top-order was blown away by Deepak Chahar. The likes of Shubman Gill (0), captain Eoin Morgan (7) and Sunil Narine (4) failed in the powerplay as KKR looked like they would suffer a defeat by a big margin. However, Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik rescued the team and gave their fans slender hopes of a miraculous victory. 81 runs for the 6th wicket in just 6 overs before Russell (22-ball 54) was bowled around his legs by Sam Curran in the 12th over. Karthik hit 40 from 24 but the former captain fell in the 15th over. Just when CSK were looking to wrap things up early, Cummins came up with a brutal onslaught, taking the CSK pacers to the cleaners at the Wankhede.
