Tom Moody has been appointed as Sri Lanka's new director of cricket on February 28 (Sunday). as per a Cricbuzz report. Moody was named as the director of cricket on the basis of recommendations by the Technical Advisory Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket. As per the three-year contract, Moody will act as a consultant, and he is expected to carry out 300 days of 'Mandatory Assignment'. His role will encompass, "the Analysis of the Future Tour Program, focusing on the Domestic Tournament Structure, Player Welfare, Education and Skill Development, Coaching and Support Staff Structure and High Performance and Data Analytics", SLC stated in a release.

 

The former Australian and Worcestershire all-rounder had previously worked as the coach of Sri Lanka for a period of two years, taking the side to the 50-over World Cup final in the Caribbean in 2007. ''Tom has worked with Sri Lanka Cricket in the past and has shown results, and I am sure with his working knowledge of the system, Tom will add greater value to our game,'' said Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket. Moody has also served as the director of cricket of the CPL, coach and subsequently director of cricket of Sunrisers of Hyderabad and head coach of Western Australia. The 55-year-old Australian was in charge of SRH for seven years till the 2019 season, guiding the team to IPL the title in 2016 before he was replaced by England’s World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss in July last year. During Moody’s seven-year tenure, Sunrisers reached the IPL play-offs five times.
