Dom Sibley and wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler remained unbeaten with a 75-run stand as England overcame a tricky target to defeat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets and thereby winning the final Test of a 2-match series against Sri Lanka at Galle. Notably, this is also the fifth straight win for England in Sri Lanka in Test cricket. Joe Root's side hasn't lost a Test in the island nation since April 2012. The 2-0 series win comes as a big boost for England who will head to India for a 4-Test series, starting February 5 after having faced and dominated quality spin bowling over the last 2 weeks.  Left-arm spinner Lasith Embudeniya picked up 7 wickets as Sri Lanka made sure they had a first-innings lead. However, Sri Lanka imploded in their 2nd innings, managing just 126 with tail-ender Embuldeniya top-scoring with 40.

Jack Leach and Bess picked up 4 wickets each, captain Root chipped in with the ball to pick up 2 wickets. Sri Lanka, who were slammed for an ordinary first-innings batting performance in the 1st Test, came up with an improved show in the 2nd Test as they posted 381 after winning the toss. Angelo Matthews hit a hundred and Dilruwan Perera and Niroshan DIckwella stepped up with 67 and 92 as the hosts posted a formidable total despite James Anderson picking up 6 wickets. Joe Root finished the series as the highest run-getter of the series with 426 runs. Chasing 164, Sibley and Jos Buttler made sure England got past the finish line on Day 4 despite losing captain Root and Daniel Lawrence in quick succession. A handy 29 from Jonny Bairstow helped as the England wicketkeeper continued his fine run in Sri Lanka. England will now head to India for the 4-Test series which will be played in Chennai and Ahmedabad
