The website mubi.com is not really a familiar name for most movie buffs in India. The subscription-based curated streaming service is mainly toasted by lovers of world cinema, who seek an OTT platform that hosts the best of international films. While world cinema addicts consider it a haven for quality film-watching, Mubi is now exploring the treasures of Indian cinema.

Mubi has now announced its launch in India, featuring the film channel Mubi India, along with Mubi World, home to an incredible variety of cinema. The streaming service is providing exclusives, cult movies, shorts and world-class features.

Apart from a collection of handpicked arthouse, offbeat, classic and contemporary films, Mubi will introduce a new film every day. The service can be available for streaming and downloading on mobile devices, smart TVs and streaming sticks.

The streaming service has drawn up partnerships with various outlets including FilmKaravan, NFDC, PVR Pictures, Shemaroo and Ultra to source content. Upcoming titles include Kamal Swaroop's cult film "Om Dar-B-Dar", Kanu Behl's "Binnu Ka Sapna" (which premiered at Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival 2019) and Mani Kaul's acclaimed "Duvidha".

Efe Cakarel, Founder-CEO of Mubi, said: "We want more people to watch great cinema. That's why Mubi exists. I can't wait to see people enjoying the incredible line-up of films we have, and I'm delighted that we can now spotlight local filmmakers and cinema through Mubi India every single day."

Guneet Monga, Oscar-winning film producer, who joined Mubi as a content advisor in September, added: "Mubi's human approach to curation is refreshingly simple and each day it is guaranteed that you will be able to watch a beautiful, interesting film. I'm thrilled we have launched a dedicated channel for Indian cinema as it means that film lovers can now watch amazing films like Salaam Bombay and Andaz

Apna Apna, alongside globally renowned gems like Moonlight."

Mubi subscriptions are now available for an introductory price of Rs 199 for the first 3 months.
