Kangana announces release date of Jayalalithaa biopic with a gripping teaser

The wait is finally over as Kangana Ranaut has made a special announcement of her upcoming film Thalaivi on Jayalalithaa's 73rd birth anniversary. The actress took to Twitter to share a teaser of Thalaivi along with its release date. "To Jaya Amma, on her birthanniversary Witness the story of the legend, #Thalaivi, in cinemas on 23rd April, 2021." The teaser introduces Jayalalithaa with one line that says, 'Filmo me aayi to, cinema ki taswir badal di, Politics me aakar, Tamil Nadu ki taqdeer badal di, apni kahani khud likhkar wo naya itihaas rach gayi, karodo ka naseeb badal kar wo ban gayi, Thalaivi.

It is directed by AL Vijay, and also stars Arvind Swami, Prakash Raj, Madhoo and Bhagyashree. Thalaivi is arguably one of the most anticipated Bollywood films in the times to come, as the audience will be witnessing a biopic of the J Jayalalithaa, who was one of the most influential politicians in the country. The movie traces her journey from the glamour world to rise in the political field. Thalaivi was earlier slated for a release in June but has been pushed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, in an interview with ANI, Kangana likened herself to Jayalalithaa: “She was a very reluctant actor. It is the same with me. I never wanted to be an actor, and that is why we became very unusual actors.” “I think she always felt that she was worth much more than just being a glam doll [in films], and she became a politician. Like how I became a filmmaker because I felt that being an actress was very limiting for me. So, I think there are parallels,” she added.
