Karan Johar to produce biopic of lawyer-activist C. Sankaran Nair

Director-producer Karan Johar has announced a film on the former President of the Indian National Congress and member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council, C Sankaran Nair. Titled The Untold Story of C Sankaran Nair, the film will unravel the legendary courtroom battle that Sankaran Nair fought against the British Raj to uncover the truth about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Sankaran Nair’s bravery ignited the freedom struggle across the country and is a testament to the power of fighting for the truth. Johar made the big announcement on his official social media handle.

Sharing the official announcement, Karan also announced that the project will be helmed by Karan Tyagi. He wrote, "Extremely excited and honoured to be bringing the untold story of C. Sankaran Nair, a historic man to the big screens. Directed by @karanstyagi. More details to follow soon, stay tuned!"  The film, inspired from true events, will be adapted from Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat's book 'The Case That Shook The Empire'. Born in 1857, C. Sankaran Nair was appointed as a member of the Viceroy's Council in 1915. In 1919, he criticised the British rule via his writings and pointed out various defects in the system. He also suggested changes which were later accepted by the British government. Apart from this, Karan Johar has a number of productions lined up including ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar,’ Madhuri Dixit-starrer series ‘Finding Anamika,’ Dostana 2, Brahmastra, Sooryavanshi and season two of ‘Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’.He will also be directing the period drama Takht, which stars Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Janhvi Kapoor among others.
