Actor Mohanlal on Friday announced that the trailer of his upcoming Malayalam thriller Drishyam 2 will be released on February 8. He made the announcement via a new poster. Drishyam 2 becomes the first mainstream Malayalam film to announce its direct-OTT release in 2021. It will premiere later this month. On January 1, the makers of Drishyam 2 announced that the Mohanlal starrer will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video. Drishyam 2 also stars Meena, Siddique, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopy, Ansiba, Esther and Saikumar in pivotal roles. Georgekutty (Mohanlal) is a loving husband and doting father to two daughters. He runs a cable TV service in a village and loves watching movies.

One day, his elder daughter Anju (played by Ansiba Hassan) gets videographed in the bathroom by one of her classmates named Varun. Varun is the son of police Inspector General Geetha Prabhakar (Asha Sharath). While trying to blackmail Anju and her mom Rani (Meena), Varun gets killed. Anju accidentally hits him with a pipe which kills him. To save his family members from the law, Georgekutty with his clever thinking hatches a plan. Georgekutty chalks out a plan to make everyone believe that he and his family were not in town on the day Varun went missing. However, Geetha finds out his intentions and tries to gather evidence. Only Georgekutty knows where Varun's body lies. The teaser of Drishyam, which was released on New Year, suggests that police will start looking for Varun's body yet again without closing the case. Drishyam 2 will focus on whether Georgekutty will be able to keep the secret to himself or not. Drishyam was remade in Kannada as Drishya in 2014, in Telugu as Drushyam in 2014, in Tamil as Papanasam (2015) and in Hindi as Drishyam (2015). Not just that, it was also remade in Sri Lanka as Dharmayuddhaya (2017) and in China as Sheep without a Shepherd (2019).
