The makers of Ashutosh Gowariker's Panipat have decided to edit the controversial scenes from the film after the locals in Rajasthan criticized the wrong portrayal of Maharaja Surajmal. The film is now 11 minutes shorter as a particular scene hurt the sentiments of the people. The scene in question involves Maharaja Surajmal offering to help Sadashiv Rao for fighting against Abdali in return for the Agra fort. When Sadashiv refuses to accept the deal, Surajmal turns him away.  All major multiplexes have received the censor certificate and have been instructed to play the new version of the film from December 13 onwards.

The historical drama has been in the news ever since the first look of the film was released. Meanwhile, the cast of the film has been highly praised for their stellar performance. Talking about the film, it stars Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Sanjay Dutt in pivotal roles. The movie was released on December 6 2019. Incidentally this is not the first time Ashutosh Gowariker's film has landed in controversy. In 2008, his most ambitious flick, Jodha Akbar faced huge criticism over alleged historical inaccuracies.
