Rekha, Bollywood's epitome of  elegance and beauty, is one of the finest female actors ever seen in the industry. In her 50 years of career, she has appeared in more than 180 movies. Apart from mainstream cinema she has often portrayed powerful female roles and starred in parallel cinema. 

The definition of "Bollywood herione" was redefined in many ways by Rekha. Often called an enigma, she is known as a loner.

* While filming her first movie Anjana Safar, a 15 years old Rekha was molested by star Biswajeet Chatterjee in Mumbai's Mehboob Studio.

* Vinod Mehra, Rekha's rumoured husband after getting married took her to his house in Bombay. In an article published in TOI, Vinod's mother was extremely hostile to Rekha and didn't allow her into the building. She took off her sandals and almost assaulted Rekha with it.

* At Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's wedding in 1980, Rekha made a 'sensational entry' wearing red sindoor and mangalsutra. During that time Rekha and Amitabh's rumoured affair was in news while he was married to Jaya Bachchan.

* Rekha was called a'national vamp' by few industry members when her husband Mukesh Agarwal committed suicide seven months after their marriage.
