Choreographer-filmmaker Remo D'Souza made one of the biggest dance films of Bollywood titled ABCD (Anybody can Dance) in 2013 and its sequel ABCD 2 in 2015 with Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead. In an interview with E Times, he said that he is planning a third part of the franchise and that the script is almost ready. He also revealed that he will cast a dancer in the lead role in the film. He said, “I am planning the third part of the series. We are working on the script; it is almost ready. We will announce it soon. ABCD is with Disney, so I am trying to get the title back. Most probably we will get it and call the third film ABCD 3 only. As for the cast, I cannot reveal names yet, but it has to be a dancer."

Remo D’Souza suffered a heart attack in December. Talking about his recovery from it, he said, "I feel great and relieved now. I am so happy to be back to what I do, and be my normal self. Currently, I am working on my next directorial and will soon announce the details. There is a lot of production work also happening. I'm really happy and thankful to everyone who prayed for me and blessed me. "ABCD featured great dancers in its cast including Prabhu Dheva, Dharmesh Yelande, Salman Yusuff Khan and Lauren Gottileb among others. Remo D'Souza roped in Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor for his other dance film Street Dance 3D in 2020 after their pair was declared a hit in ABCD 2. Remo had also directed Salman Khan in Race 3, however, the film received negative reviews upon its release.
