The highly-anticipated film, Master starring Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi, has finally released in theatres. The film revolves around a young professor named John Durairaj aka JD (played by Vijay), who is an alcoholic and is sent to a juvenile home to teach children for a period of three months. While his stay there, he comes face-to-face with a deadly gangster (Vijay Sethupathi), and their clash forms the crux of the film. The film has received a massive response from the audience and fans have already declared it a blockbuster hit. The film has been released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.

However, the film was subjected to some negative reviews online, by rival superstar's fanclubs.  Ajith fans took to Twitter to start the negative trend with the hashtag #MasterDisaster. The trending hashtag was accompanied by some mocking of the film. Many of the Vijay memes also went viral on social media. Criticising the film, few users called it a waste of three hours while many others asserted that the film should have released on the OTT platforms instead of a theatrical release. Some even claimed that half of Vijay’s fans left the theatre after the first half.
