Shocking! China: 4,800 boxes of ice-cream found to be contaminated with Covid-19

Coronavirus vaccination drive has already begun in many parts of the world. Amid the vaccination drive, a shocking news has come from China where Ice cream has tested positive for coronavirus and left health authorities scrambling to trace people at risk of infection.

The news has created fear among the citizens in China again. Chinese authorities are investigating after learning of the infection, with three samples of ice cream made in local shops reported to be infected with the coronavirus. The incident took place in the Tianjin municipal area in northeastern China, Amar Ujala reported.

Some 4,836 boxes have been identified as contaminated by the Tianjin Daqiaodao Food Company, of which 2,089 have now been sealed in storage. A further 1,812 was dispatched to other provinces and 935 entered the local market but only 65 were sold, according to China Daily. 

The company has ordered 1,662 employees to isolate and test themselves. According to Dr. Stephen Griffin, a virologist at the University of Leeds, the corona infection in ice cream cans is caused by humans. The virus is thought to have spread to the production site. Ice cream is made with fat and kept in cold storage, so the virus cannot be found there. But he added: 'We probably don't need to panic that every bit of ice cream is suddenly going to be contaminated with coronavirus.'
