Ganesh Chaturthi: Check out the recipe for 'Bajra Mawa Modak'

Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10-day Hindu festival, celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the god of auspicious beginnings. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

The festival is believed to remove all obstacles from human life and bring peace and prosperity.

Modak is also known as Modakam and Kozhukattain in South India where we use different types of fillings. Modaks are often made during Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaviti festival along with other traditional prasad.

Try these basic and simple recipe of homemade Bajra Mawa Modak:

Ingredients
For filling 180 gm mawa 
15 gm ghee
135 gm sugar 
A pinch of cardamom powder 
10 gm pista 
10 gm almond 

For dough
200 gm bajra atta (pearl millet) 
A pinch of salt 
10 gm ghee 
10 ml oil (for greasing)

Method 
1. Roast mawa in ghee ill golden brown.
2. When mawa cools down to a warm temperature add powdered sugar, chopped nuts and cardamom powder. 
3. Boil water with salt. Mix the bajra flour along with boiling water with spatula 
4. Once it is mixed well keep the dough covered for some time till it feels warm to touch. 
5. Knead the dough well. Then form balls into 8 equal portions. 
6. Grease hands with oil and flatten each ball to create a well. 
7. Stuff the cooled down mawa mixture into the ball 
8. Bring the edges together to form a plated pattern of modak. 
9. Arrange on a steel platter greased with oil. 
10. Steam for 12 minutes. Once they are steamed pour ghee over them when they are still hot. 
11. Enjoy the mawa stuffed modaks
