Ganesh Chaturthi: Check out the recipe for 'Coconut Jaggery Modak'

Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10-day Hindu festival, celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the god of auspicious beginnings. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

The festival is believed to remove all obstacles from human life and bring peace and prosperity.

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are incomplete without Lord Ganpati’s favourite sweetmeat, the modak. Modaks are a special treat to the elephant-headed God and his devotees.

Try these basic and simple recipe of homemade Coconut Jaggery Modak: 

Ingredients:
Freshly grated coconut - 1 cup
Jaggery(grated)- 3/4 cup
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Cardamom powder - 1/3 tsp
Cashew(crushed)- 6 to 7

Methods:
• Take a pan and turn on the flame 
• Add ghee and let it melt
• Add fresh grated coconut
• Roast it for 4-5 minutes on low flame
• Add cardamom powder
• Add grated jaggery to the pan and give it a good stir
• Add crushed cashew to the mixture and keep stirring
• Cook it for another 2 minutes on low flame
• Turn off the flame and let the mixture cool down a little bit. 
• Take a spoonful size of coconut jaggery mixture and shape it first, by rolling it between your palms by applying pressure and further roll it into a perfect ball shape. 
• Further start pinching the upper part and shape it like cone with the help of your thumb & and other fingers or howsoever your comfortable doing.
• Further shape it by using the side of the fork and put incision very lightly, shape all the modaks in the same way and its ready.
