Air quality in Mumbai dips to 'very poor' category

The air quality index (AQI) in Mumbai has been dipped to 'very poor' category standing at 309 on Thursday, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).

In fact, the air quality of Mumbai was worse than Delhi on Thursday. Delhi's overall air quality index (AQI) stands at 200 (moderate category).

According to SAFAR, the AQI of Mumbai today is poor because of low dispersion and low temperature variation. Also, local emissions will lead to poor AQI for Mumbai for the next two days.

On Jan 1, Mumbai had recorded highest pollution levels in four years. While lower than December 31, Mumbai's overall AQI of 307 was still in the very poor category.

Following the ongoing COVID-19 conditions, health experts have urged people to take extra precautions as respiratory diseases tend to worsen with a dip in temperature and rise in pollution level.
