Amid rising covid cases Section 144 imposed in Mumbai

In view of the growing covid cases in Mumbai, the office of the Commissioner of Police in the city has issued orders imposing Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, thereby banning gatherings of more than five people.

The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Chaitanya S and will remain in force from 8 pm on Monday to midnight on April 30.

Citizens should not leave their homes without permission during this period.

So, during the period from Monday to Friday, from seven o'clock in the morning to eight o'clock at night, five or more citizens should not gather or crowd together. No one should leave the house unnecessarily as there is a curfew at night. The order also mentions that exemptions can be granted in special cases.

Violation of the rules will result in action being taken against such persons. Also, the local deputy commissioner of police has been given the responsibility to allow travel in the meantime.

The application has to be submitted to the Assistant Commissioner for e-pass. The curfew and curfew order excludes essential services and its staff, food vendors, vegetable vendors, hospitals, medical and other essential services. Police are also blocking and inspecting vehicles. The police will be on patrol and security has been deployed at beaches and crowded places.
