Aslam Sheikh: Maharashtra govt will extend all possible help to increase production of Remdesivir

Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 57,640 new coronavirus infections, which took the state's case tally to 48,80,542, while 920 fatalities, the highest in a day so far, pushed the death toll to 72,662, the health department said. There are 6,41,596 active cases in Maharashtra as of now. As many as 57,006 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals in a day, which took the count of recoveries to 41,64,098.

Due to urge in covid cases there i shortage of Remdesivir, oxygen, beds etc. Aslam Sheikh, the Guardian Minister of Mumbai, visited Kamla Lifesciences Limited, a company at Tarapur MIDC in Palghar district, which is the largest producer of Remdesivir in the country. He also interacted with Dr. Digambar Zaver, President of the company and senior officials of the production department.

“The company has the capacity to produce more than three million Remdesivir doses per month as per the increased capacity of the company. If the supply of raw material is abundant, the company can produce more than 50 lakhs of Remdesivir. If raw material is made available to a large number of companies producing Remdesivir in the country, their production can increase significantly, "said Aslam Sheikh.

The black marketing of Remdesivir is growing on a large scale in the state and the country. A vial of Remdesivir should cost at least two thousand. However, it is being sold in the black market at a rate of more than twenty thousand. He also mentioned that the state government will take strict measures to curb the black marketing of Remdesivir.
