Bombay HC asks CBI to start probe made by Parambir Singh against Anil Deshmukh

The Bombay high court on Monday on petition of Parambir Singh's lawyer Dr Jaishri Patil has ordered CBI to start a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into corruption allegations of Singh against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

While hearing on Dr Jaishri Patil's plea regarding allegations of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, Bombay High Court said Anil Deshmukh is the Home Minister and no impartial probe can be done by the police.

In his petition, Singh has accused Deshmukh of adopting corrupt practices in posting or transfer of police officers and seeking to implicate BJP leaders in MP Mohan Delkar's suicide. He urged the Supreme Court to direct a fair CBI investigation into the acts of Deshmukh in abuse of his official position.

He further accused Deshmukh of adopting corrupt practices in posting or transfers in police in addition with extortion of Rs 100 crore per month from various establishments.

The court had reserved its order on March 31 on the issue of maintainability of the PIL filed by Param Bir's lawyer Jaishri Patil and Ghanshyam Upadhyay. The Maharashtra government's lawyer argued that the petition was not maintainable as Singh had vested interests and the plea was a result of his transfer from the post of Mumbai police commissioner to the low-key Homes Guards.
